Medical episode leads to collision between sedan and school bus in Central Florida

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a sedan collided with a school bus on May 4, at 9:02 a.m. in Marion County. The incident took place at the intersection of US 441 and SE 176th Street. The report states that the sedan driver moved into the left turn lane after a medical emergency, causing a collision. Of the 27 students on the school bus, two, along with the driver of the sedan, were taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.After the impact, both vehicles moved onto the grass shoulder, south of the crash location. The school bus had 27 students on board at the time of the crash.The 21-year-old male sedan driver from Ocala sustained minor injuries in the crash while wearing a seat belt. The school bus was driven by a 66-year-old female, also from Ocala. She reported no injuries from the collision and was wearing a seat belt. Florida unveils new U.S. history course as alternative to AP

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Education has released a new U.S. history course framework designed as an alternative to Advanced Placement classes.The course, part of the state’s Florida Advanced Courses and Tests program, is intended to offer another option for students seeking advanced coursework.State officials said the class will allow students to earn high school credit and potentially college credit if they pass a corresponding exam and enroll in a Florida public college or university.The program was created through a 2023 law signed by Gov. Orlando Magic fire head coach Jamahl Mosley

ORLANDO, Fla. — Jamahl Mosley has been dismissed as head coach of the Orlando Magic. President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced the decision today.Mosley’s dismissal follows five seasons with the Magic, during which the team compiled a regular-season record of 189-221 (.461). The team advanced to the playoffs three times under his leadership.Jeff Weltman, President of Basketball Operations for the Orlando Magic, expressed gratitude for Mosley’s contributions. “We’re grateful to Jamahl (Mosley) for all he’s done for the Orlando Magic,” Weltman said. “We appreciate his leadership and the positive contributions he made as head coach. While this was a difficult decision, we feel it’s time for a new voice and fresh perspective. We wish Jamahl and his family nothing but the best.” Mosley became the 15th head coach in Orlando Magic history on July 11, 2021. Under his tenure, the team made playoff appearances in the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. In the most recent season, Orlando finished with a 45-37 (.549) record. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the winners of its annual Visitors’ Choice Awards, highlighting the attractions and businesses visitors enjoyed most in the area.The awards are based on surveys and data collected from visitors, according to the bureau. New Suncoast Credit Union branch aims to serve growing Polk County

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Suncoast Credit Union opened a new branch in Davenport as part of its continued expansion across Central Florida.The branch, which opened April 27, is located at 2586 Jacks Road near U.S. Highway 27 and Sand Mine Road.The credit union said the new location is aimed at improving access to financial services in rapidly growing Polk County.According to the company, the branch offers standard banking services including deposits, loan payments, new accounts and lending support.
