Childhood friends shot to death in DeLand were in town to spread dog's ashes, family says

A 19-year-old Citadel cadet and South Carolina Army National Guard member was among two young men found shot and killed in a vacant lot in downtown DeLand this week, leaving two families searching for answers as police continue their investigation.DeLand police said Dustin Rose, known to family and friends as "DJ," and 18-year-old Samson Campbell were found shot to death Wednesday. Investigators have not announced any arrests or identified a motive.Rose was home on break from The Citadel, where he was pursuing his dream of serving in the military.
