Flooding, beach erosion: Here’s how king tides are affecting Central Florida — Lake Mary Community news

A combination of king tides and strong winds is causing flooding along Central Florida’s coastal counties and raising new beach erosion concerns. In Brevard County’s Satellite Beach, beach crossovers are closed through Sunday. The rough surf has carved out steep cliffs and created dangerous dropoffs near the stairs.[Seeing flooding or beach erosion? Take a picture and PIN IT! Here’s how]Meanwhile, in Volusia County, the king tides are stripping sand from the shoreline and exposing the seawall in some places.County officials are monitoring the damage, but say they won’t know just how bad the beach erosion is until after the tidal event is over later in the week. The tides have also pushed water further inland. The issue is especially obvious in Astor, along the Volusia-Lake County border. The water has raised the St. Johns River, which has once again caused flooding in the town.Residents in that area can access a self-service sandbag distribution site. The site is at:Lake County Fire Rescue
