Volusia County is putting money generated through traffic citations toward teaching young drivers how to safely navigate the roads. The Volusia County Council approved $284,060 Tuesday to support driver education programs offered through Volusia County Schools during the 2026-27 fiscal year.County officials said the money comes through the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Program, which allows counties to use fees collected from qualifying civil traffic citations to support driver and traffic safety education. The funding will help provide after-school, weekend and summer driving courses. It will also be used to replace aging training vehicles and purchase educational materials and equipment, according to the county. The courses are available to eligible high school-age students who live in Volusia County, including students attending private schools and those who are homeschooled.Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
