About 10,000 people in Winter Springs remain under a precautionary boil water notice after a power surge caused a temporary loss of water pressure, city officials said. The city said the notice could remain in place for another 24 hours while officials wait for multiple rounds of water testing to come back clear. Test results are expected Saturday.Matt Reeser, communications director for Winter Springs, said the issue began when a power surge tripped breakers and briefly took systems offline before they were restored.“That resulted in the loss of pressure,” Reeser said. When water pressure drops, Reeser said, there is a potential for contaminants to enter the system. He stressed that the notice is preventive and does not mean the water is contaminated.“It’s a precautionary measure,” he said. “It doesn’t mean there’s actual presence of any bacteria or any contaminants in the water.”Winter Springs has dealt with water system concerns in recent years, including aging infrastructure.
